Heartbreak for Croatia, and Joy for the Socceroos

Croatia needed the victory and Australia needed the tie or victory.

Croatian fans had much to cheer about as early as 2 minutes in, as a free kick by Dario Srna found its way to the back of the net. From there to the rest of the half, Australia showed what their made of and fought back against Croatia having many opportunities. On a penalty kick by an unlikey Penalty kick taker, Australia's Craig Moore tied the game up at 1.

During the second half, Nico Kovac put a weak goal past the Australian keeper who I'm sure wish he had another chance at that shot. Croatia was leading 2-1 and the Australian team kept playing hard.

Harry Kewell proved his worth for Australia as he tied the game up at 2. This is what Australia needed, and the game stayed that way with an exciting finish.

Three red cards were awarded in the game. Two to Croatian players Dario Simic and Josip Simunic. Brett Emerton received a red card for the Socceroos.

Australia moves forward to play Italy in the Round of 16.

Michael Kralj
